Counts of stocks by quadrant after the stated close, using our own relative-strength construction against SPY. They describe past closes and do not say what any stock will do next.

Each dot is a stock. Left to right is how its price compares with SPY relative to its own recent average; bottom to top is whether that comparison has been rising or falling over the last 5 sessions. Hover or tap a dot for its numbers. Free, no signup.

How the map is built

  • RS-Ratio: each stock's daily close divided by SPY's close gives its relative strength. RS-Ratio is that figure divided by its own average over the last 20 sessions, times 100. 100 means the stock's relative strength sits at its recent average; above 100 it is higher than that average.
  • RS-Momentum: the change in RS-Ratio over the last 5 sessions, in points. Zero means unchanged; positive means the ratio rose.
  • Strong: Relative strength is above its recent average and has been rising.
  • Gaining: Relative strength is below its recent average but has been rising.
  • Waning: Relative strength is above its recent average but has been falling.
  • Weak: Relative strength is below its recent average and has been falling.
  • Data: completed daily closes, adjusted for splits and dividends, from a third-party daily price data source, for a fixed list of large US stocks, fetched once per completed session. Only the derived ratio and momentum are shown here, never the prices.
  • SPY is cap-weighted, so when its largest names lead or lag the typical stock, most dots move together and the quadrant counts swing. Compare a stock with its neighbours, not with the count.
  • This is a relative-strength construction of our own. It is not the proprietary formula behind any commercial rotation chart, and it describes past closes only.

Quadrants: Strong, Gaining, Waning, Weak. Latest reading: Oct 22, 2026 close. The page refreshes after each completed session.

What the GEX filter means

GEX is net gamma exposure: an estimate, built from option open interest, of how options dealers' hedging may affect a stock's moves. A positive reading is taken to mean dealers hedge against moves, which tends to dampen them; a negative reading, that they hedge with moves, which tends to amplify them. The sign rests on an assumption about who holds the options (dealers long calls and short puts), which is weaker for single stocks than for index options. The filter is off by default. Switched on, it hides stocks whose latest GEX reading is negative and keeps stocks that are positive or have no fresh reading. A reading older than one trading day counts as no reading, and the filter is offered only when at least half the stocks have a fresh one. It is a display filter on our own estimate, not a rating of the stock.

Of 99 stocks, 21 have a negative net GEX reading, 64 positive and 14 no fresh reading, the oldest taken Oct 22, 2026.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What does the Stock Rotation Map show?
It places each stock by two numbers: RS-Ratio, how its price compares with SPY relative to its own recent average, and RS-Momentum, how that ratio changed over the last five sessions. The four quadrants are Strong, Gaining, Waning and Weak.
Why do most stocks sit in a narrow cluster?
Most stocks move close to SPY from day to day, so their ratios and momentum are near the middle. The axes are fitted to the middle 98 percent of stocks so the cluster is readable, and any stock beyond the edge is drawn on it with an asterisk.
What does the GEX filter do?
Is a quadrant a recommendation?
No. A quadrant describes where a stock stood after past closes. It does not say what any stock will do next.
