OpEx Dates 2026: Options Expiration Calendar
The November 2026 monthly options expiration (OpEx) is Friday, November 20, 2026, read from the published 2026 options expiration calendar. As of Monday, October 26, 2026, it is the next standard expiration.
The next CPI release is Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. ET, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule (https://www.bls.gov/schedule/news_release/cpi.htm, read 2026-10-10).
The next FOMC meeting is October 27 to 28, 2026, per the Federal Reserve meeting calendar (https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomccalendars.htm, read 2026-10-10). The Federal Reserve lists 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/2026-october.htm).
Monthly OPEX, quarterly triple witching, VIX expiration and SPX settlement dates, each one read off an exchange document rather than calculated. Every date on these pages carries the URL it came from and the day it was checked.
NEXT STANDARD EXPIRATION
Friday, November 20, 2026
The next monthly options expiration (OpEx) is Friday, November 20, 2026, and standard A.M.-settled index options in that cycle stop trading on Thursday, November 19, 2026. SquawkFlow read both dates from the published 2026 options expiration calendar (https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/options/Cboe2026OPTIONSCalendar.pdf) on 2026-09-01, rather than computing them from the third Friday rule, which is wrong for June 2026.

Looking further out, the scheduled government releases between October 27 and November 10, 2026 are laid out in Eastern Time on the election week calendar, with an ICS download.
VIX expiration
The next standard VIX option and futures expiration is Wednesday, November 18, 2026, for the November 2026 contract.
A standard monthly VIX option and futures expiration is the Wednesday 30 days before the third Friday of the following calendar month. Every VIX date on this page was still read off an exchange document rather than produced by that pattern, because the pattern breaks: the exchange lists the May 2027 expiration on Tuesday May 18, 2027, a day earlier than the pattern gives, around the Juneteenth holiday.
The full VIX expiration calendar lists every standard monthly expiration through May 2027 with the exchange document each one was read from.

History, not a forecast: on the 389 CPI release days from 1994-02-17 to 2026-10-12, the S&P 500's median absolute close-to-close move was 0.56%, about the same as the 0.53% across all 8,215 sessions in that span. History, not a forecast: through the September 16, 2026 meeting, the S&P 500 had declined on six consecutive Fed decision days, the second-longest such run in records going back to 1994; the longest was seven, Chair Powell's first seven meetings, in 2018. Download the CPI and FOMC dates as an ICS file for any calendar application. Timed entries are stored as UTC instants, and the 30 minute block each one occupies is a calendar convenience, not a published duration. The FOMC meetings are all-day entries because the meeting calendar publishes dates.

Questions
- When is the next options expiration (OpEx) date?
- The next standard monthly options expiration is Friday, November 20, 2026. Standard A.M.-settled index options in that cycle stop trading the business day before, on Thursday, November 19, 2026. SquawkFlow read both dates from the published 2026 options expiration calendar (https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/options/Cboe2026OPTIONSCalendar.pdf) on 2026-09-01.
- When is the next triple witching date?
- The next quarterly triple witching session is Friday, December 18, 2026. The exchange defines it as "the simultaneous expiration of individual stock options, equity index options and equity index futures that occurs four times a year on third Fridays in March, June, September and December". The four 2026 sessions are Friday, March 20, 2026, Thursday, June 18, 2026, Friday, September 18, 2026, Friday, December 18, 2026. The June 2026 session is a Thursday rather than a third Friday, because NYSE observes Juneteenth on Friday June 19, 2026. Read from https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/options/Cboe2026OPTIONSCalendar.pdf and https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/spx/Settlement_of_Standard_AM_Settled_SP_500_Index_Options.pdf on 2026-09-01.
- When do VIX options and futures expire?
- A standard monthly VIX option and futures expiration is the Wednesday 30 days before the third Friday of the following calendar month. Every VIX date on this page was still read off an exchange document rather than produced by that pattern, because the pattern breaks: the exchange lists the May 2027 expiration on Tuesday May 18, 2027, a day earlier than the pattern gives, around the Juneteenth holiday. The next standard VIX expiration is Wednesday, November 18, 2026, for the November 2026 contract, read from https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/options/Cboe2026OPTIONSCalendar.pdf on 2026-09-01.
- What happens on an OpEx day?
- Equity, equity index, ETF and ETN options in the standard monthly cycle reach their expiration date, and the open interest at each strike either settles or goes away. The two index contract types settle differently. On the standard A.M.-settled contracts, the contract specification states: "The exercise-settlement value, SET, is calculated using the opening sales price in the primary market of each component security on the expiration date." Those contracts have already stopped trading, because "Trading in SPX options will ordinarily cease on the business day (usually a Thursday) preceding the day on which the exercise-settlement value (i.e., the expiration date) is calculated, 5:00 pm ET." SPXW weeklys instead trade through the close of the expiration day itself. Quoted from https://www.cboe.com/tradable_products/sp_500/spx_options/specifications/, read 2026-09-01.
- Why is the June 2026 OpEx date a Thursday?
- A Thursday, not a Friday. NYSE observes Juneteenth on Friday June 19, 2026, so the standard expiration moves to the preceding business day. That makes the June 2026 standard expiration Thursday, June 18, 2026. It is the reason no date on this page is produced by the third Friday rule: the rule and the exchange calendar disagree for that one month. Read from https://cdn.cboe.com/resources/options/Cboe2026OPTIONSCalendar.pdf on 2026-09-01.
- When is the next CPI release?
- The next CPI release is Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. ET, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule (https://www.bls.gov/schedule/news_release/cpi.htm, read 2026-10-10).
- When is the next FOMC meeting?
- The next FOMC meeting is October 27 to 28, 2026, per the Federal Reserve meeting calendar (https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/fomccalendars.htm, read 2026-10-10). The Federal Reserve lists 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/2026-october.htm).
How these dates were checked
No date on these pages is produced by the third Friday rule. That rule is wrong for June 2026: NYSE observes Juneteenth on Friday June 19, 2026, so the standard expiration for that month falls on Thursday June 18, 2026. Each date was instead read off the exchange document that publishes it, on 2026-09-01. The CPI and FOMC rows were read from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Federal Reserve schedules on 2026-10-10.
