One Strike, One Night: Reading Overnight Open Interest

Narration: AI voice.

One strike, one night

One strike. One night. about 62 percent of TLT's net call open interest change at the Oct 14, 2026 settlement sits on a single strike. And the page's own caveat is the punchline.

What the page counts

The page: settled open interest from Cboe, compared settlement to settlement, updated once a session. Figures are contracts, not dollars. The archive holds no option prices. 210 symbols compared. Net change, +6,501,270 contracts.

Where the change landed

Where did it land? Page-wide, calls netted +3,099,327 contracts, puts +3,401,943. By symbol, the largest net increase was SPY, +1,138,355. Now TLT. Net +301,493, and +279,093 of that in calls. Then the top strike on the page, summed across every expiry: TLT 85 calls, +172,459, over 28 expirations. That's about 62 percent of TLT's net call change. One strike.

The caveat

Now the caveat, in the page's own words. Open interest change, not trades. It does not say which side opened or closed. Every new contract has a holder and a writer. A call build counts the same for a new long call, a covered call written against stock, one leg of a spread, or a hedge rolled from another expiry. No side. No price. No dollars.

Wrap

Open interest is counted once a day, after the close, and posted the next morning. So this is a dated count, Oct 14, 2026 against Oct 13, 2026. Not a trade tape, not a forecast. How to read the change is on the learn page in the description. Educational only.
